PSAT Testing

Who takes the test? This optional test is a rigorous national assessment for Junior students and is used to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Programs. The test is open to all junior students; in particular those who typically score in the top 10% on standardized tests are encouraged to register. Sophomores may take the PSAT, only as a practice test.

What is the test? The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test that provides first-hand practice for the SAT. It also gives junior students a chance to enter National Merit scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. Students will receive feedback on their strengths/weaknesses for college studies.

When is the test? The 2024 PSAT will be given at WHS, ERHS, PHS, and SoWashCo Online (for full-time online students) on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. Students must register to take the test at their home school. Please note this is the district fall test day. Juniors who elect to take the PSAT will not take the practice ACT test scheduled for 11th graders; sophomores who elect to take the PSAT will not take the pre-ACT test scheduled for all 10th graders. (There will not be a make-up day)

What is the registration procedure? Registration ends September 17, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. This is a firm deadline due to College Board’s timelines. Because the fall deadline comes quickly, we are opening registration early so families don’t miss the opportunity with the busyness of the new school year.
